Majja started after a year of research and travel in Tamilnadu, India to find and support lesser-known crafts that need attention at grass root level for artisans to continue their craft and rely on their skills for their livelihoods. Mohana, founder of majja is a textile designer from Tamil Nadu, India. She started majja in 2024 after coming across a group of women weavers practicing mat weaving in a village close to her native town. Before this, she worked at RaasLeela Textile for three years, which changed her perspective on working with artisans and built her foundation on how thoughtful design interventions can bring about a change in artisans’ lives.

Majja means to have fun in many languages in India! We focuses on creating simple, well-researched, and functional products that are enjoyable for artisans to make and interesting for you to own, while preserving the integrity of traditional craftsmanship.
